How to Buy Golf Balls
By Robb Thomas
It may seem devastatingly simple, but the golf ball is one of the most heavily engineered items of our times. In fact, 5000 patents were approved in the last two decades alone, making the golf ball a pretty smart piece of technology.
This wide range of choice and technologies can make choosing the right ball almost confusing. There are lightweight balls, three-piece balls, balls with titanium centers and basically every kind of ball that you can think of, so how do you choose the right one?
Keep reading to learn about the three basic golf ball structures and how they each affect your play, and also learn about how to choose the right ball for you.
1. The Two-piece Ball
A two-piece golf ball has a compact inner core surrounded by a hard outer shell. Typically, the two-piece ball is used as a "distance" ball and is designed to travel far, but its drawback is that it can sometimes be unwieldy and harder to control than other balls.
Usually, the harder and more compact the inner core of a two-piece ball, the further this ball will go.
2. The Three-piece Ball
Many golfers like three-piece balls because of how they feel and the way the balls spin, giving the golfer better control. A three-piece ball is usually made of a Balata or Balata-like shell that's softer, followed by a fabric cushion designed to absorb the impact of a hit and finally a hard and compact inner core for distance.
Most pro golfers use Balata-covered balls, preferring the improved control and spin as well as the way a three-piece ball is less likely to bounce right off a green.
3. The Multi-layer Ball
The multi-layer ball is your catchall and great for beginners or golfers who are just hitting a few balls at the driving range. The multi-layer balls have alternating layers of softer materials that cover a compact and hard core. This design is intended to combine the soft spin of the Balata with the distance of a two-piece ball, but sometimes simply sacrifices the benefits of both.
How to Buy the Right Golf Ball
Probably the best golf ball for a beginner golfer is a two-piece ball. With a beginner's weak swing, the two-piece ball will give you greater distance. Once you have your swing down, then focus on the control and direction that a 3-piece of multi-layer ball provides.

Golf Ball Testing Grounds
Golf ball manufacturers spend millions of dollars each year researching and developing game-improvement balls of different types. You want to make sure you buy golf balls that will help you to improve your game scores.
Step One
Reflect on the last few rounds of golf you played and what kinds of problems you had. Perhaps you noticed your moves too far to the right or left. Your shots may lack distance or soar too low or too high. Or maybe you're consistently short on the greens. Your prevailing issues will impact your choice of golf balls.
Step Two
Choose a golf ball made out of two pieces (a cover and one-piece interior) if you are looking for more distance and less movement on the ball. Words like "extra distance" and "low spin" are good indicators of a two-piece ball. Beginners often use two-piece balls with very little spin.
Step Three
Look for a three-piece ball if you want the ball to curve more and stop faster on the greens. High spin balls also tend to fly higher in the air. Some companies are making golf balls that react to how hard the ball is hit. Some three- and four-piece balls are designed to spin less when hit with a driver and spin more when hit with higher lofted clubs around the green.
Step Four
Purchase a sleeve (three to four balls) of various golf balls meeting the type of low spin (more forgiveness) or high spin (more control) you want.
Step Five
Play several rounds of golf using one brand of golf ball for each round. Pay close attention to how the ball responds to your game. Buy more of the balls you are able to hit in the proper direction with appropriate ball flight.

How to Buy Logo Golf Balls For Your Company
By Mark Talkington
When you order logo golf balls for your company, make sure they are printed at the manufacturer. Titleist balls should be printed by Titleist, Wilson balls should be printed by Wilson, etc... This means that the clear coat normally applied to balls are sprayed over your logo, resulting in a longer lasting logo. Be aware of the company that prints the balls at their "warehouse"... it may be some kid with a $500 printer in his garage! The printing facilities used by the manufacturers cost over $1,000,000 so you can be assured that your balls will look great.
Make sure you can choose from a wide variety of top name brands for your company logo golf balls. Look for Titleist, Wilson, Nike, Maxfli, Callaway, etc... These balls will be valued by your customers and clients. These manufacturers use the latest technology to ensure accurate, durable logo golf ball printing.
When you order custom logo golf balls the company you deal with should include free shipping, and with no set-up fees. In these days of digital printing, there are no "set-up fees" anymore.
If you need Creative Services, make sure the company you deal with can provide it. If you don't have a logo, or need to modify your own, make sure the company you deal with provides graphic services to meet your needs -- free of charge.
The Logo Imprint Area... The logo imprint area is a 7/8" circle, so make sure your logo makes the most of it. Your logo should look great, so utilize as much as the imprint area as possible. Round logos work the best, square is good. Short, wide logos should be avoided.
