Review: Wilson Staff DXi Hybrid

We tested: 3 (19°), 4 (22°), 5 (25°) with Aldila Voodoo graphite shaft

Key Technologies: Lots of weight concentrated in the sole helps to lower the center of gravity and, thus, produce higher-launching shots. The face insert features different thicknesses in "three zones" so shots come off "hot" whether they're struck in the center, heel or toe.

OUR TESTERS SAY: Solid, workmanlike hybrids that are easy to swing, hit it high and offer ample forgiveness.

PROS

PLAYABILITY: These are worth a try if you need help hitting the ball high; the 25° is a nimble performer.

ACCURACY/FORGIVENESS: Covers up mis-hits well; easy to swing, less effort means more consistency.

DISTANCE: Honest distances - sufficiently long on flush shots and those missed on the toe or heel.

FEEL: Effortless to swing; most find that there's enough responsiveness to distinguish center shots from off-center hits.

LOOK: Simple clubhead design but with a spice of style in the burgundy and black shaft.

CONS

Digging the 3 (19°) out of the deep stuff can pose a problem; a few testers believe it's difficult to determine good shots from bad ones based on feel alone.
